Reflection...

Well as my beautiful son wrote (with the help of his mum), yesterday was my birthday. I had a fantastic day with my family and we all went out to dinner.

This gave me time to reflect on 12 months ago yesterday when Fletcher was conceived. We arrived at the hospital for egg collection at 5am, excited and nervous. Carolyn was sent up for her theatre which was not until 11am. I had decided to wait at the hospital. I was way to excited to do anything else.

It was so interesting to sit in a room full of "future dads" who were all nervous with the same anticipation as I had. As the day wore on the staff came and updated each dad about when his wife was in/out of surgery and how the surgery had gone. Some dads even went up to recovery to see there wives.

At 1pm, no one had come and seen me. I asked after Carolyn and they told me she was in recovery. At 2pm I asked if I could go up and after some eye rolling they finally let me see her. I had never been discriminated against before due to being gay and I was totally blown away by the rudeness of the staff. It left such a sour taste on such a special day.

We got nine eggs, six were fertilised and three were viable embryo's (10,9 and 8 cells). Two were frozen and the 10 cell, which we named Eeyore, was returned to Carolyn 4 days later.

12 months later "Eeyore" brings such joy to our lives! Today he used his new Jolly Jumper for the first time. I have a feeling it is going to be a hit. He loved being able to move freely and did not seem scared at all.

So, a Happy 1 year birthday to Fletcher (sort of).... I love you more and more each day.

Our story is a little different however it's still awesome to think that our little ones were created a year ago :)

Love the Jolly Jumper Fletcher!
